GW4 Attack & Defence Rankings

A preview of the GW4 matches with predicted goal and clean sheet rankings

In the table at the bottom of this post we've got estimated goals scored and clean sheet rankings for each team in GW4 based on our behind-the-scenes team ratings. So early into he season the ratings are of course based predominantly on last year's results.

Liverpool (vs Aston Villa) seems the place to be. Without Suarez and possibly without Sturridge for this one too will Liverpool have the attacking power they had last year? Raheem Sterling certainly has stepped up this season so the question will be whether Mario Balotelli can mark his Anfield debut with a memorable performance. Adam Lallana is also ready to return to actin after a pre-season injury. Villa's impressive defensive performances so far this season have also have convinced over half a million fantasy managers to add one of Vlaar or Hutton to their squads. Probably best on the bench for this one though,eh?

The stage also looks set for Radamel Falcao to make his Premier League debut for Manchester United against QPR. We looked at his career form and potential in an article last week and have to point out a  very important update to that. Thanks to data by one of our favourite footall analysts Michael Caley (@MC_of_A) Falcao's scoring record is not quite as good as first seemed. His career goals totals include a lot of penalties; remove these and he can boast a decent but rather ordinary (for an elite striker) record of 0.5 goals per game at his peak, rather than his overall record of 0.8 when penalty kicks are included. Will he take pens at United? Unlikely, but let's see. As we mentioned though, after a real poor start to the season for United, the occasion looks ripe for something Latin to spark life into Van Gaal's side. We'll back Falcao to get Old Trafford smiling again on Sunday.

Chelsea look in good form to score a couple of goals against Swansea, who of course have a had a more than decent start themselves. A trip to Stamford Bridge is a different kettle of fish for the Swans though and Diego Costa looks a strong favourite for FPL captaincy if he can prove himself fit for Saturday's game. Defensively, Liverpool and Chelsea would appear to be in poll position for clean sheets in GW4, with Everton, Hull and Stoke City not far behind.
